Be in Control of All your PCR Variables

There are a number of variables to take into consideration when performing PCR. You always take the time to ensure you have quality reagents, the highest quality DNA template, the right oligo sequences’ to ensure you get maximum yield and high quality PCR products. But do you ever consider your thermal cycler?

If you haven’t, take some time and think about the following questions:-

  • Are you 100% sure your Thermal Cycler performing at its best?
  • Can you be sure it is accurate and uniform across the whole block?
  • How do you know that it achieves the temperature stated for the required time and that temperature changes are efficient and uniform?
  • Could you be putting the validity of your experiments at risk?
  • When was the last time you verified or calibrated its performance?
  • Do you need validation for your laboratory accreditation?

The validation of thermal cyclers is recommended for laboratories that comply with ISO, GLP, GMP, FDA and other regulations, including:

  • HLA labs/Immunogenetics – EFI/ASHI
  • Diagnostic labs – ISO 17025/New York State
  • Microbiology labs – ISO 18159
  • Veterinary labs – AAVLD/FELASA
  • Crime labs/Forensics - NFSCT
  • Pathology – CPA
  • Paternity testing labs
  • Food diagnostics

Even if you don’t need accreditation now, it’s likely you will in a few months time!

UKAS Accreditation
Anachem is UKAS accredited to carry out the CYCLERtest validation service. And, we can validate 99% of the PCR machines on the market, including LightCycler™ and Real Time machines.
